Camino de Santiago is a story about pilgrims and it is a comedy style of documentary. This film is set in Spain and stars Devid Striesow as Hape Kerkeling, a famous German comedian, Martina Gedeck as Stella who visited this pilgrimage route many times, Karoline Schuch as an English news reporter Lena.

Summery

Comedian Hape fall ill from overwork in the prime of his life. After the surgery, on a doctor’s advice, he decides to go on a recreational and religious trip which means he has to walk 800 Km of the pilgrimages route in Spain. From the first day he suffers from a rainstorm and temporal accommodations are very dirty. Cockroaches are crawling there and he stays up all night. 20 to 30 Km on foot a day is too difficult to him. So he often hitchhikes and uses clean hotels for taking a shower. He is trying to find the purpose of his life through difficult pilgrim itinerary. on the way he makes friends with news reporter Lena and Stella. He gains new vitality from communications with them and remind his question which has been thinking for 30years “Do you believe in God?”. Finally, he gets in the final destination of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela.

Recommendation

Convincingly directed by Julia von Heinz, you can catch very well the beautiful landscapes and why many pilgrims who have different motivations participate walking on this historical way.

Highly praised Hape Kerkeling’s autobiography by German.

I’d like to recommend this film to the people who are searching for the meaning of their lives. You might get an answer from the people in there.
